Natural cures for acid reflux are the most effective treatment for gastro-esophageal reflux disease
There are several popular natural cures for acid reflux such as
apple cider vinegar, cinnamon and fresh vegetables. A painful burning
sensation in the stomach is a sign of acid reflux. The burning
sensation is commonly known as "heartburn". It is caused when
hydrochloric acid is regurgitated back to the esophagus when it should
not. The acid corrodes the lining of the esophagus causing it to have
open scars. Regurgitation occurs when lower esophageal sphincter (LES)
does not function rightfully. LES are muscles at the end base of the
esophagus which relax to allow food into the stomach. However,
exerting pressure and consuming a lot of acid foods causes it to open
when it should not.
Most specialists recommend natural cures for acid reflux rather
than synthetic medicine:
1. Apple cider vinegar is one of the best existing natural cures
for acid reflux. It is most effective when raw. Raw apple cider
vinegar is readily available in many grocery stores. The acetic acid
in apple cider vinegar is a weaker acid than hydrochloric
acid. Therefore, it increases the pH of the stomach. Raw apple cider
vinegar has not been chemically processed, and is rich in
nutrients. Distilled vinegar has been refined, hence loses most of its
raw properties. Take the right portion which 2 to 3 tablespoons mixed
in a glass water before meals or at the onset of heartburns
2. Cinnamon, cardamom, fresh fruits such as bananas, papaya,
slippery elms and pineapples are very helpful. They level up the
lining of esophagus making food flow in painless. Cinnamon has
antiseptic qualities, which heal the wall the painful rough ages.
3. Water is very important. Drinking is good in detoxification. It
dilutes the excess acid in the body maintaining the normal pH of the
body.
4. Milk also provides temporary relief for acid reflux. Milk is
alkaline in nature, hence neutralizes excess hydrochloric acid in the
esophagus. However, milk is not effective because when sour, it
releases lactic acid which may aggravate the situation.
5. Some unhealthy behaviors have been found to magnify the problem
of acid reflux. Such behaviors include smoking; too much alcohol and
eating fast foods. They force the stomach to secret excess
hydrochloric acid which results in acid reflux. Quitting these habits
will improve digestion in the body.
6. Avoid eating large amounts especially before bed. A person' body
is designed to handle up to a certain limit of food at a time. Large
amounts of food exert pressure on the muscle valves forcing them to
relax releasing hydrochloric acid to the esophagus.
